Two oldest cities in India that serve as the center for the Hindu religion are Varanasi and Prayagraj and both the cities are located in Uttar Pradesh. The presence of the River Ganges makes them sacred for the Hindu pilgrims.
Varanasi is the spiritual capital of India. It is considered an auspicious place to die, as it is believed to grant moksha or liberation from the cycle of life and death. Allahabad is famous for Triveni Sangam or the meeting point of three rivers – the Ganga, the Yamuna, and the Saraswati. Allahabad has since time immemorial, held the largest Hindu gathering on the banks of the Sangam – the Maha Kumbh Mela. Also Vindhyachal (Shakthi Peeth) is the Hindu pilgrimage site and home to the temple of Maa Vindhyavasini.
